Show Aclewalk Project Ready To Go Forward T When Property Owners Sign Agreements City council Monday night authorized auth-orized representatives of the WPA workers group to contact property owners in regard to another sidewalk side-walk construction project, after it was reported to the council that the project has been set up and is virtually virt-ually ready to go forward. Joseph Mecham, Ralph Gillespie and Mr. James, representing the WPA, reported that they had contacted con-tacted Mr. Heath of the WPA, and that the sidewalk project was all ready to go forward, providing the city is ready. It was decided to contact con-tact the property owners relative to financing a sidewalk, and it was suggested that the WPA men do this. (Under the plans previously discussed dis-cussed by the city council, the sidewalk side-walk project would be sponsored by the city, with the cost of materials to be met by the property owners, and the labor to be supplied by the WPA. Cost of an asphaltic concrete con-crete sidewalk is estimated at 17c a running foot.) The "city dads" took up a number of other matters, at the Monday night session. Marshal Gilbert Shumway and Night Marshal Wendell Wen-dell Bush were called in and given instructions as to their duties; parking park-ing of passenger buses was discussed ; the washing of Main street by the firemen was suggested; and contacting contact-ing Mr. Watson, district W. P. A. engineer, to come to American Fork and discuss the procedure for working work-ing out projects, was approved. In regard to the Salt Lake & Utah Railroad corporation buses, which sometimes park on the sidewalk for the loading and unloading of passengers, pass-engers, it was reported that the company officials had been contacted. contact-ed. The company officials pointed out that the buses generally go around the railroad station and park at the side, but that frequently the driveway is blocked by private automobiles parked there, making it necessary for the bus to stop on the sidewalk. It was pointed out that if the driveway is kept clear, the buses will be brought to the loading station sta-tion in a proper manner. LeRoy R. Griffin and D. L. Greenwood Green-wood of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the council and reported that the organization organ-ization was sponsoring a clean-up and paint-up campaign. They stated stat-ed that they proposed to purchase two paint guns and have them available avail-able for use at a small cost, and asked the city to help finance the spray guns until the equipment could be paid for from rentals, at which time the cost would be refunded re-funded to the city. The council approved ap-proved the plan and agreed to help sponsor the project and the purchase pur-chase of a spray gun. |
