Show VIKING SAGA . . . Student Body Officers of the Pleasant Grove junior high school were elected Friday, September 23. The following officers were chosen: chos-en: Calvin Fenton, president; Wanda Wan-da Tope, vice president and Edith Stark, secretary and treasurer. These officers will now have the responsibility of conducting assemblies assem-blies and dances for the junior high school. Another Friday rolled around and with it another assembly which was presented by the student body council. The assembly was conducted by the student body president, Ed Smith. The band, under the direction of Erwin Jensen, started the program off with a bang by playing several of the school's favorite songs, and by presenting a new school song. I The words were introduced by the school's double trio, after which all of the students were asked to join in. A skit, "Living Statues of Modern History," was presented by the following fol-lowing students: Lola Tomlinson, Lua Anna Lim, Eileen Peterson. , Marv Burns. "Ren. WalVpr anrt dred Bezzant. Margaret Stark, member of the advanced speech class, gave a discussion dis-cussion of "Swing Music and Its Effects," School is now in full swing. Why? Last Friday night, September 23, the "Get Acquainted Dance" was held in the gymnasium. The social, as one of the students put it was a "wow" and will be noted as one of the outstanding social events of the year. Pleasant Grove Vikings will play the Lehi Wildcats this afternoon in the first league encounter of the year. Coach Giles reports that the team is in first class condition physically, phys-ically, and in a frame of mind to give Lehi a game they won't forget for awhile. The Future Farmers of the Timpanogos Tim-panogos Chapter initiated twenty-four twenty-four new members at a candy pull on September 26. The following were initiated: Richard Adams, Wesley Shoell, Charles Rodeback, Tyler Rogers, Dean Gilman, Lynn Peterson, Roy Harper, Horace Aston, Gale Harper, Junius Shoell, Byron Carter, Leland Miller, Holly Maxfield, Lesley Neves. Leon Smith, Mark Bezzant, Calvin Mills, Harold Prestwich, Bill Tomlinson, Tom-linson, Dale Fugal, Forest Cullen-more, Cullen-more, Lee Cobbley, Leland Baxter, and Reed Radmall. Tryouts for the adagio dance were held Thursday of last week in the high school gymnasium under the direction of Laura Banner, physical physi-cal education instructor. Out of 13 contestants the following eight were selected: Lyle Hooley, June Cragun, Fern Robinson, Lola Tomlinson, Claire Nell Hilton, Virgil Cook, Millard Mil-lard Tope and Arlo Walker. Two boys are yet to be chosen to complete com-plete the team. After several weeks of practice, they will be ready to participate in assembly programs. Miss Banner has stated her intention to enter this group in the dance contest held in conjunction with the 'B. Y. U. Invitational track meet, in May. During the coming year the Pleasant Grove high school public speaking and debating class, under the supervision of Lyean Johnson, will be very active. At present the students are preparing pre-paring talks on subjects of their own choice. Among various interesting topics chosen are: Philharmanic Societies, National Debt, Farm Relations Re-lations With the Government, Pro and Con of the European Situation, and Capital Punishment. To gain experierfce the students are going to give their talks in Sunday Sun-day night meetings. They would appreciate invitations from other organizations. The class anticipates entering the debating tournaments at both Og-den Og-den and Provo. - The question for debate will probably be Resolved: That the United States Should Form an Alliance with Great Britian. |
