Show o Library Enjoys Most Successful Twelve Months The public library finished the year ending December 31, 1935, in good financial standing with all outstanding out-standing bills and repair bills paid, according to the report made Monday Mon-day night at a meeting of the library li-brary board. The report also 6howed a purchase of 259 volumes during (the past year and 260 volumes donated. do-nated. The total number of volumes in the library at the end of the year was 7245. Although there was a decided drop in the circulation during the past year it was felt by the librarian and the board members to be due to the quarantine period and the fear of parents to let their children handle books that may carry scarlet fever germs. The circulation has been on a steady gain during the past ten years being now three times more than during 1925. The tpye of books being called for at the library show a trend toward better reading, biographies and reference ref-erence books being in great demand. Books of fiction must be of the higher type of reading to be on the list in constant demand, the librarian librar-ian said. During the coming month at least 400 books will be withdrawn from the shelves and rebound and cleaned nr readv for use again. There will also be upwards of $100 spent for the purchase of new books, the choice to be made from the list being be-ing asked for at the desk. o |
