Sidney Beck was taken to the Veteran's Vet-eran's hospital in Salt Lake City Monday to receive treatment and to determine the cause of an illness that struck him Sunday. The first report of a stroke has not yet been verified toy the doctors. Some extensive remodeling improvements im-provements have been completed recently re-cently at the Kozy club rooms- Mrs. Bromley said they are now much better equipped to handle the party crowds as they have opened up more space, papered and painted. Mrs. David Davis returned to her home here Tuesday after a trip to Los Angeles, where she visited with her husband and family, who have been living on the coast all winter. Mr. Davis was feeling much better when she left to come home. He is in the Veteran's hospital at West Los Angeles for diabetes treatment, and is under the care of the doctor who was formerly at the hospital in Salt Lake City. Donna Lue Davis Da-vis returned with her mother and , will finish the school year at the local high school- Mr. and Mrs. Steve Moyle returned return-ed to their home in Laramie, Wyoming, Wyom-ing, last Friday after visiting with relatives and friends in American fork. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Coddington were pleasantly surprised Saturday night when a number of their friends called to spend the evening. The visitors were Messrs and Mes-dames Mes-dames V. F. Houston, Glen Sykes, David Taylor, Leo Meredith, M. L. Baird, James Chadwick and E. H. Devey. Appetizing refreshments were served at a late hour. Am. Miss Lillie Shafter, Mrs. Lyle Grant and daughter, Zola, and Mrs. Leona Grant motored to Salt Lake Saturday and spent the day visiting and attending to business. Miss Erma Smith and Miss Ar-vUla Ar-vUla Devey motored to Salt Lake last week and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jay Brockbank and with Miss Margaret Mar-garet Davis. A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Thompson last Sunday. Sun-day. Mrs. Thompson and the baby are in the Lehi hospital and are getting along nicely. The two camps of the Daughters of the Pioneers of American Fork will meet next Thursday, the Adams camp meeting at the home of Mrs. June Wright and the American Fork camp at the home of Mrs. Minnie Ingersoll. Mrs. Elizabeth Okey will give the history of Mrs. Kathrena Olsen and Mrs. E. J. Sea-strand Sea-strand will give the lesson to the Adams camp. Music will be furnished furnish-ed by the Okey and Nelson families. The American Fork camp members will appear in pioneer costumes, songs of that day being featured. The lesson will be on the preserving of Pioneer Histories. John Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bennett, celebrated his ninth birthday Monday. Several of his friends gathered at his home and played games after which his mother served delicious refreshments. George E. Abel returned to his home Sunday after a two months' stay in the L. D. S. hospital in Salt Lake City. Mr. Abel is feeling much better than he has for some time and is welcoming his many friends who call each day. Mrs. Joseph Searle fell on the ice Sunday and suffered a broken right ankle. Mrs. Searle was on her way to the woodshed to obtain fuel to hasten the cooking of dinner at the time the accident occurred. A Junior baptisimal excursion to the Salt Lake temple will be held tomorrow. to-morrow. Jens Johnson, James Beck and Armis Ashby were awarded merit badges at the scout award program held last Sunday night in Alpine. Johnson received a badge for metal work and Beck for woodwork. Both of these boys received star awards. Ten of the small friends of Billie Bromley enjoyed a birthday dinner at his home Sunday. Billie was five years old that day and the cake, with five candles, was the center of attraction on the dinner table- The G. A. club members were entertained en-tertained Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. John Duckworth. Mrs. Reed Robinson gave a talk on music appreciation and musical numbers were rendered by Miss Lois Greenwood, Green-wood, Mrs.. Duckworth and Mrs- Arthur Ar-thur Nilsson. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Lawrence Kitchen, son of L. R. Kitchen of this city, left Monday for Los Angeles, where he will enroll en-roll in a Diesel Engineering school. Lawrence has been studying in the extension department of the school since May of last year, his work passing with an average of 95 per cent. He expects to complete the course in about three months. The Feality club members were guests at the home of' Mrs- Glen Robinson last Thursday. Mrs. Helen Hel-en Singleton of Garfield was a guest of the afternoon. The club members mem-bers present were Mesdames Stanford Stan-ford Wilde, Ralph Davis, Sherman Robinson, Gilbert Shumway, Bob Merrott, Walter Steffin, Jesse Birch, Eldon Chipman and the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. John Wing announce an-nounce the arrival of a baby girl, born Thursday of last week at the Lehi hospital. Mrs". Wing and the baby will return to their home the last of this week. Mr. and Mrs- Guy Lund of Eagar, Arizona, visited with Mrs. Ray D. Nicholes last week. Lunds were on their way home from a trip to Ma-lad, Ma-lad, Idaho. President Clifford E. Young and 75 members of the Senior class of the Second ward Mutual motored to Salt Lake City Wednesday and attended a dinner and program at the Lion House social center. Levi Edgar Young met the party there and gave a very interesting talk on the history of the Lion House and other church centers. . au . Mrs. Detta Taylor and Mrs- Lyle Grant sang a. duet num-and num-and Miss Joyce Houston gave song and dance numbers. Miss Ed a Ashby motored to Og-den Og-den Sunday and attended a banquet tendered by the Ogden alumnae members of the Xi chapter of Phi Delta Pi social unit of the Brigham Young university- The affair was held at the Green Gables and was given for the active and alumnae members of the B. Y. U-, U. of U. and U- S. A. C. chapters. There vere 50 young women present. Mrs. Leona Grant was hostess to the members of the Variety club at her home Thursday afternoon. Also as guests of the day were Mrs. Elmer Loveless of Provo, Mrs. T. A-Greenwood, A-Greenwood, Mrs. Kenneth Singleton, Single-ton, Mrs. Robert Hartshorn, Mrs. Samuel Grant, Mrs- Lyle Grant and Mrs. Elliott Lee. Mrs. Dave Calm won the club priz and Mrs. Lee the guest prize. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Emma Anderson of Salt Lake i City spent the past week-end in American Fork, visiting with relatives rela-tives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stringham and George Stringham of Salt Lake City were guests Tuesday at the Home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Ashby. George Smith is visiting in American Amer-ican Fork at the home of his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Smith. Mr. Smith is working in Cedar City. Mrs. Leo T. Shelley spent Sunday and Monday of this week in Magna visiting with her children living dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Ashby were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin R- Kimball and family of Provo- Mr- and Mrs. Raymond Jacklin entertained a number of guests at their home Saturday night, the occasion oc-casion being Mr. Jacklin's birthday. The H. B. club members and Mrs. Dave Calm were the guests of Mrs. Owen Humphries at her home Thursday. Thurs-day. The club prize was won by Mrs. Kenneth Singleton-Mrs. Singleton-Mrs. A- F. Smith and Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth Francom entertained at the Francom home Tuesday evening in ' honor of the 21st birthday of Ly-i Ly-i man Smith- The 15 guests present enjoyed a series of games and delicious de-licious refreshments were served by ; the hostesses. Members of the Literary League ' met Monday at the home of Mrs. ! Harold Chipman. Mrs. Lillian Booth was in charge of the program, the ' subject being "Child Literature." She was assisted in the presentation presenta-tion of the subject by Mrs- Walter B. Devey and Miss Selma Seastrand. Musical numbers were given by Miss Merriam Young. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. A. B. Allen and Mrs- Wilson Cun- I ningham will give the program. |
