Show Oldest Citizen Celebrates His Anniversary John W. Widdoes, one of American Amer-ican Fork's oldest residents, celc-j brated his 92nd birthday Tuesday at his home- Born in Ohio, February Febru-ary 4 1844, Mr. Widdoes enlisted twice 'for service with the Union armythree ar-mythree months in 1862 and 100 days in 1864. On leaving the army he settled in Iowa but for the past 30 years has lived in Nebraska, California Cal-ifornia and Utah. In May of 1934, Mr. Widows picture was printed in the newspapers newspa-pers in connection with the G. A. R. convention in Salt Lake City. Jess Widdoes of Wichita, Kansas, saw the picture and wrote to Mr. Widdoes Wid-does He stated his father, Meredith Mere-dith Widdoes, had often spoke of his brother, John, who fought m the Civil war. Letters were exchanged and relationship confirmed after a silence of 60 years. Five days after the receipt of the first letter, one came from Benton Widdoes, son of Isaac Widdoes, living in New Philadelphia, Phil-adelphia, Ohio. He too had seen the news picture- M Widdoes last heard from his father in 1877. At that time he was living in Iowa He is now informed that all of his brothers and sixers have died, however, some of them lived to an old age. Mr Widdoes spent his birtnoa., ouietlv at his home and welcomed a number of friends who called to wish him the compliments of the i d3y. |
