Show a . People, Politics & Policy Service to city is serious business By E. MARK BEZZANT James L. Sorenson is to be congratulated con-gratulated for his willingness to ask that the University of Utah Medical School not be renamed after him. U of U President Chase Peterson Peter-son ought to honor that request if he has not already done so. The nominating conventions to be held early next month in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove are serious business, and the average man and worn an on the street ought to be very concerned about who will sit on those city council seats and in the seat of the mayor. The system works like this. Each of the two parties in Pleasant Grove will meet at their respective places and select three people to run for office. This year the three offices that will be up for grabs are two city council seats and the office of mayor. Generally these party nominating nominat-ing conventions are attended by fewer than 25 people. Sometimes only a handful of people attend, while at other times the convention might be "packed" with as many as 40 or 50 people. Party officials usually contact people whom they think might be interested and ask them to run on their respective tickets. According to news reports, Mayor Holdaway and Keith Christeson have indicated indi-cated they want to seek office again. That means the Citizens Party will need to find at least one other person per-son to nominate for the second city council post. The Peoples Party, on the other hand, apparently will need to find people for all three positions, since early reports indicate that Councilman Coun-cilman Dale Warburton probably will not seek a second term. That will be a big task for the leadership of the Peoples Party. The reason it will be a big task is because Mayor Holdaway still enjoys en-joys a positive image in the community. commu-nity. Under his leadership the city has accomplished a number of significant sig-nificant things, not the least of which have been the building of a city hall, a library, senior citizens cen- ter, and now the addition .(, fire fighting facilities. The mayor would be the (i, point out other things whi equally as important but H visible.
