Show New comic begins today Charter Chum can be found on page 17. A new comic strip is being featured in this newspaper. "Charter Chum," chronicling the adventures and escapades of curious Charter Chum puppy, will appear weekly. Designed by the cartoonist team of Roake and Sume and published as a public service by this newspaper and Charter Canyon Hospital, each weekly "Charter Chum" cartoon teaches a lesson as it entertains. The cartoon strip is designed to raise important health and safety issues, and to give families an opportunity for further discussion. "I am excited about this new cartoon strip," said Roake. "It is more than just a fun cartoon about the irresistible Charter Chum - it is unique because parents can read it with their children and talk about Chum's lesson. In today's world, parents can't get too much help in teaching their children how to be safe and happy." Charter Chum is the mascot dog of Charter Canyon Hospital in Orem, which developed the Chr.m idea in consultation with the hospital's mental health and child education specialists. Many children may recognize Chum from the "Say No to Drugs" campaign presented in elementary schools in Utah County and surrounding areas. The musical presentation includes a life-sized Chum who teaches children what to say when offered drugs. |
