"'v.; $ & r, ' ! VALLEY VIEW'S sixth grade team took first both in league and tournament play. Second place was taken by Grovecrest in the tournament. The Valley View team are (front, L-- John Karren and Matt Bulkley. Back, Jason Stein, Quint Chipman, Matt Huber, Greg Wright and Jeff Bezzant. Elementary 'basketball wieeer II The Pleasant Grove Recreation Department concluded another excellent winter elementary basketball program this past Saturday. Approximately 150 fourth, fifth and sixth graders developed their basketball skills by participating in the program. Nine regular season games were played by each, team over the course of the season. The sixth grade league winner was the Valley View team with Grovecrest taking second place. The Manila fifth grade team ended the regular season with a CENTRAL ELEMENTARY'S fifth grade team took first in the elementary tournament. Front, L-- David Trinnaman, Ryan Carlson and Ryan Peterson. Back, Donnel Hooley, David Johnston and Glen Montgomery. perfect 9-- 0 record. Valley View team '2' was a close second at 8-- The fourth grade league was won by the Iindon team. They too had a perfect 9-- record. Grovecrest team '1' finished in second place at 8-- At the conclusion of the season a tournament was held. Some great basketball was demonstrated and many exciting games were played. ' In the sixth grade championship game, Valley View edged out a good Grovecrest team, 43-4-1 to win the championship. Central team 1 beat the Central team 2, 34 to 28 in the fifth grade division and Valley View won out over the Iindon team, 26 to 17 in the fourth grade championship game. Medals were awarded to the league championship teams and trophies were given to the tournament winners. All games were played at the junior high school gyms. We appreciate their ' cooperation and help. David Taylor also gave thanks for the help of several high school basketball players who helped with the program. Billy Adamson, Mark Clements, Tracy Flinders, Brad Kitchen and Alan Howe acted as referees and helped improve the skills of the young players. Dave also thanked Ken Clark, Darren Frampton, Mark Johnson and Frank Mills. Dave recognized Janet Schoonover for the many Saturday mornings and evenings spent helping the young men in the community. Dave said most parents are to be thanked for their support of the program and in helping develop good sportsmanship in their sons. He said a few parents could learn from . their sons about the importance of sportsmanship and doing your best which in the end is winning. He said he hopes all the young men enjoyed the program this winter and many young players are developing to help our high school team in the future. rf" '. ... , - . ' . -- !
