Show Wresffieg By DARREN JACKSON The Pleasant Grove Wrestling team ended the season last Thursday night with their annual wrestling awards banquet. A roast beef dinner served by Dan Harrison and the J.V. Cheerleaders started the evening. The awards presentation started with Coach Darrel Henry giving a talk about the difficulties of wrestling and the dedication it requires. He then passed out the lettering certificates. Team captains (Phil Cook and Thane Eyre) were then awarded 'Team Captain" awards for their excellent leadership of the Viking team. The distribution of the awards resembled the 1984 grammy awards sweep by Michael Jackson. The winner this time wasn't a singer but a 167 pound senior who received the team captain award, the most 30 second takedowns award, best individual record award, fastest fall award, most falls award, and to top it off the outstanding wrestler award. His name is Phil Cook. Thane Eyre received the captains award and the most inspirational award. The weight puller award went to Shawn Pueblo (who lost 20 pounds). Senior John Nielson was given the best attitude award. The most improved wrestler went to Darren Jackson. Freshmen Lonnie Truex took two awards: the most 10 second escapes award and the grand slam award. Phil Shurtleff of the Daily Herald was present to award senior and region-state placers with a blown-up blown-up picture of them wrestling. Coaches Darrel Henry, Ray Fugal, David Sherod, and Doug Bluth would like to thank the town, faculty, and the administration for the help and support. They also would like to point out the work done by managers Lynn Reimshcisal, and Sherman Bullough. Coach Henry also feels recognition of the wrestlerettes and wrestling cheerleaders is due. If you see one of these wrestlers pat him on the back and say "Good Job!" |
