(Bill) and Lucille Boren Butt will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary March 30. They were married 50 years ago in Salt Lake City. They are the parents of three chilren: Jerry Butt, Bountiful; Johnny Butt (deceased); and Dawna Lou Wilson, Centerville They have nine grandchildren and seven During the early years of their marriage they owned a large dry farm in Cedar Valley and later he was employed and retired from Geneva Steel Company. They are former residents of both Lehi and Pleasant Grove (Manila) and currently reside in American Fork where they enjoy visiting with their friends and relatives. Lucille takes particular price in her han-diwork and has made beautiful crocheted afghans for her children, grandchildren and many of her relatives. A special anniversary celebration in their honor was held in Bountiful this past week by their immediate family. Temple rites Valeri Murdock, daughter of Stephen Paul and Deanna Murdock of American Fork, will marry Dennis Marc Wilson, son of Carol Wilson of Pleasant Grove and the late Clarence Wilson Jr., on Friday, March 30, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A reception will honor the couple that evening at the American Fork 12th Ward, 673 E. 300 North. All friends and relatives are invited from 7 to 9 p.m. to share this special time with them. Nay in rites Virginia Lea Forte and Samuel Kelly Nay will recite wedding vows on March 31. Miss Forte is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Forte of Alpine. The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theron Nay of Pleasant Grove. All friends and relatives are in-vited to attend a reception in honor of the couple the same evening from 7 to 9 p.m. It will be held at the Alpine Ward, 165 N. 100 East, Alpine. ' K I ' Pleasant Grove's Utah Golden .Girls won several prestigious ' awards at the recent intermountain clinic in American Fork's Apollo Hall on March 10. In the Drill down Competition, lindsey Hayward, 6, won first place, Denise Kelly, 7, also won first place and Tammy Wiley, 9, took a first place. Emily Evans, 5, took second as did Beverly McDaniel. Third places were won by Nicole Bills, 4, Jamie Hall, 5, Katie Kirk, 6, Kassie Greer, 6, Jodi Burr, 8, and Cicely Jensen, 10. In solo competition, Stephanie Lundell, 8, Chausse Ouderkirk, 7, Rachel Thomas, 6, Janae Manwaring, 9, Cicely Jensen, 10 and Kristin Helm, 10 took Superior awards. Also in the solo competition, Beverly McDaniel, 6 and Tammy Wiley, 9, took excellent awards. Colleen Bills, teacher for the team for the past seven months, said that another competition for the eirls will take place at Orem In a recent meet for drill teams in American Fork, the Utah Golden Girls took three first places out of nine age divisions. Caye completes basic training Air Force Reserve Airman Kenneth. H. Caye, son of Ruth Jj. Caye, Lindon, and retired Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Kenneth L. Caye, Lafayette,: Ind., has been assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., after completing Air Force basic training. During the six weeks at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the airman (Studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs ..'arid 'received special training ;n human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force. The airman will now receive specialized instruction in the civil engineering field. He is a 1978 graduate of Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, Groton, Conn. PI. Grove barbershop singers participate in annual spring show By JACK HILL Three Pleasant Grove men, Duane Clark, Robert Morehead and Carl "Lee" Gillman, participated in the 25th Annual Spring Show of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartette Singing in America. (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.) "A Silver Anniversary in Song", was the theme of the 25th Annual j Production staged in the Provo High School Auditorium. The two-nig-show, March 23-2- 4 drew near sell-ou- t crowds on both nights. Under the direction of Curtis Maxfield, the Skyline Chorus was joined by the Sweet Adelines of Bountiful. Also on the program were three fine quartettes. 'The New Arrangement", made up of four Skyline Chorus men, Bob Krommenhoek, Clark Shurtz, Doug Johnson and Charles Porter. Four Sweet Adelines members, known as "4 Times The Fun" provided a female version of a Barber Shop Quartette. The rich harmony and nostalgic music was sprinkled with good clean humor. A championship quartette from Southern California made the long drive to Provo to participate as the "The Upper Classmen". Profits from the annual show go to support the Institute of Logopedics, a national charity in Witchita, Kansas, that treats those with speech impediments. "We Sing That They Shall Speak" is the motto of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. which boasts of 33,000 members across the country. If melodic harmony, nostalgic music and clean fun are things that attract you, don't miss the show next year. Roy Swenson promoted to rank of major Roy W. Swenson, son of Wesley O. and Virginia R. Swenson of 525 West 200 South, Lindon, Utah, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of major. Swenson is a navigational flight instructor at Loring Air Force Base, Maine, with the 69th Bombardment Squadron. His wife, Ann, is the daughter of Joseph and Opal Ollivier of Pleasant Grove, Utah. The major is a 1977 graduate of Ganzaga University, Spokane, Wash. |
