Show Symphony Irish Night' March 19 kings, the clan of O'Dowda's once solidly encastled and housed in North Mayo, is a singer with an international reputation. Mr. O'Dowda began his career in London, during which time he sampled group singing, summer shows, cabaret, concert parties, revues, variety, radio and television. He has appeared in the London Paladium, on the Ed Sullivan Show, at the Stardust and Caesar's Palace, in two films, has had several television series of his own, and eventually earned the nickname "The Voice of Ireland." He is also an author, and in his book "The World of Percy French," which is about the balladeer who over 60 years ago travelled the length and breadth of Ireland, he insists that the Percy French songs spring from episodes which actually took place in his travels. Copies of Mr. O'Dowda's book and recordings will be available in the lobby at the concert. Tickets are $6, $8, $10 and $12 are are now on sale at the Utah Symphony Sym-phony box office in Symphony Hall. Seniors and students will receive $2 off. For ticket information call 533-6407. The Utah Symphony's fifth annual i Irish Night returns Monday, March ' 19, under the baton of Harold Mayo Gottfredson, complete with traditional and contemporary or-','ichestra or-','ichestra works, the incredible McTeggart Irish Dancers, and Vj favorite Irish songs performed by ' Ireland's popular man of song, Brendan O'Dowda. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in Symphony Hall. The orchestra will open the concert with the national anthems of the United States and Ireland, and will perform the Irish March "Sarsfield's the Man." The McTeggart Mc-Teggart Irish Dancers, directed by Maureen McTeggart, will then join the orchestra and perform a series of reels, jigs and other fancy steps in both hard and soft-shoe. The orchestra will then perform Bodley's "The Six Pence," followed by a medley of Percy French songs sung by Mr. O'Dowda. The sym-" sym-" phony will take over once again before intermission, performing two works from Michael Edward Conner's "Irish Suite:" Rory of the Hills: A Processional of the Celts; and O'Donnel Abu. Following intermission, Mr. Gottfredson will conduct the orchestra or-chestra in Potter's "Rose Catha Na Mumhan" (the Battle Song of Munster). The McTeggart Irish Dancers will then fire up again, performing a single jig, a light jig, and a double jig. .. Mr. Gottfredson will then conduct the; orchestra in a rendition of f Casney's "Raggle-Taggle Gypsy." Following will be a group of Irish BRENDAN O'DOWDA songs, "The Ballymaquilty Band," J.S. Cherry's "The Dear Little Shamrock," Murphy's "The Gentle Land of Erin," with Srah Bullen on harp, and Olcott's "When Irish Eyes are Smiling," with Mr. O'Dowda as soloist, who will be joined by the audience in a sing-along. The finale will have Mr. O'Dowda and the McTeggart Irish Dancers performing with the symphony Percy French's "Slattery's Mounted Fut," and "Dunphy's Horn Pipe," with arrangements by Michael Casey and James Bolger.
