Jennifer won first place and James won third place. Two Grovecrest students win at Utah History Fair at BYU I Jennifer Sykes, daughter of Glen j and Carol Sykes, was awarded a ! first prize trophy for her project for ; the Utah History Fair, Wednesday, March 7, at BYU. James Cresman won third place. The fair is sponsored annually by Utah State University, Utah State Historical Society and the Utah ! State Board of Education. It is open ! to all students, grades four through 12. Jennifer won the regional competition com-petition for elementary display. Her display, titled "Great-Grandma's Playtime," included some of the toys and games representative of Clarissa Leila Bigler Sykes Hampton, Hamp-ton, formerly of Nephi. To get her information, Jennifer made a list of questions, then interviewed in-terviewed Great-Grandma in Salt Lake City. Some of the items displayed were a toy wagon, a soft ball, doll stuffing and a "guinea." Jennifer's grandpa whittled the ends of a piece of apple branch to make the guinea, which was part of an outdoor game. Jennifer is in Mrs. Major's fourth grade class " at Grovecrest Elementary. She will be taking her display to the University of Utah campus for state-wide competition April 18 and 19. James Crisman, son of James E. and Joy Crisman, won third place for his project around the life of his Great-Great-Grandfather. His project's title was "Charles Crismon, Western Colonizer and Grist Mill Builder." James will also enter his project in the Utah State History Fair to be held at the University of Utah. |
