Show Weight management course planned for young people "Weight Management for Young People," is a new course being offered at the American Fork Hospital. The introductory lecture will be Monday, March 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the hospital board room. The course runs for ten consecutive Mondays and young people from 9 to 17 years of age are invited. Several successful courses in weight management for adults have been held at the hospital, officials noted, but this is the first time one has been offered specifically for young people. Deborah Sartain, MSW, and Vernita Nuttall, R.N., will teach the course. According to Mrs. Sartain, there is a particular need for such a course for the young. Eating habits and attitudes toward fitness are established at a young age. If proper habits can be modified early, a lifetime of overweight and unhappiness can be avoided. In addition, overweight young people usually lack the self confidence to effectively cope with the problem of growing up. While one part of the course will deal with the physical part of weight management, a main emphasis will be increasing self-esteem. self-esteem. To accomplish this, skills in problem solving and inter-personal relations will be taught to class members. Due to limited enrollment, interested persons should pre-register pre-register by calling American Fork Hospital at 756-6001. There will be a fee for the course. |
