Show Alhambra players, directors win win at theatre guild presentations "Fiddler on the Roof" was the recipient of several awards at the second annual Utah County Theater Guild Award Presentations on Thursday night. The production was presented last summer at the Alhambra Playhouse in Pleasant Grove. Doug Jolley, Kent Prestgard and Pal O'Sullivan won the award for the outstanding special effects for "Fiddler on the Roof." Kevin Moss as Lazar Wolf in "Fiddler on the Roof" won the award for outstanding out-standing supporting actor in a company. Jim Shuwmay who played Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" alternating nights with Randy Gleave, received the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a company. Audra Moss was named as the outstanding director in a company for "Fiddler on the Roof" and also as outstanding character actress in a company for her role as Eulalie Shinn in "The Music Man." The local theater had a large number of nominations in several categories. Karl Pope, also of "Fiddler," was nominated for Outstanding Multiset Multi-set Design;" C. Michael Perry was nominated for Outstanding Stationary Set Design for "Oliver;" Sara Price and Connie Nielsen were nominated for outstanding costuming for "Fiddler;" and Adeena Webster was nominated for Outstanding Choreography for "Fiddler." Christie Nuttall was nominated for outstanding makeup and hair for "Fiddler." Todd Johnston was nominated for Outstanding Child Performer (boy) for his performance as Winthrop in "The Music Man." Four of the six nominees in the Outstanding Youth Performance (girl) category were "rom the Alhambra productions. Included were Kim Boyter as Sprintz, Betsy Beaman as Chava and Stacy Lynn Bennett as Bielke, all from "Fiddler on the Roof." Also nominated was Meredith Johnston, who performed as Amaryllis in "The Music Man." Mike Wilson as the "Artful Dodger" in Oliver and Justin Dinehart as Barnaby in "Hello Dolly" were also nominated in the category of Outstanding Youth Performer (boy). Richard Hodson who played Motel in "Fiddler on the Roof" was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Sup-porting Actor in a company. In the Outstanding Supporting Actress (company) category the nominees included Jill Brown as Hodel and Shauna Moss as Tzeitel in "Fiddler on the Roof." Claudine Boolhe was nominated for Outstanding Character Actress in a company for her rendition of "Ernestina" in "Hello Dolly." In the same category, Myrth Burr was nominated for her role as Yenta in "Fiddler on the Roof." Reed Prestgard was nominated for his portrayal of Mayor Shinn in "The Music Man" and Bruce Beaman was nominated for his role as the Rabbi in "Fiddler on the Roof." Helen Beaman was nominated as Outstanding Lead Actress in a company for her performance as Lola in "Damn Yankees," and Gaye Beeson was nominated for her portrayal as Dolly in "Hello Dolly." Four of the five nominations for outstanding lead actor in a company com-pany were from Alhambra productions with Randy Gleave nominated for his role as Tevye, Jim Shumway was nominated and won this category as mentioned earlier; Jeff Johnston was nominated for his role as Harold Hill in "The Music Man" and Joel Osborn for Mr. Applegate in "Damn Yankees." Audra Moss was nominated for directing the graveyard scene in "Fiddler on the Roof." "Fiddler" also received a nomination for the "Outstanding Play by a company. Excerpts from "Fiddler on the Roof," "Damn Yankees," by Alhambra players were performed during the awards ceremony. Presenters from Pleasant Grove included Mayor David Holdaway, Elaine Hansen from Pleasant Grove High School, Marcella Walker, editor of the Pleasant Grove Review and hairstylist, Barry Bullock. |
