Show Citizen, Review, Press, Wed., Dec. 14, 1983 - Page 20 Barbara Birk named contest winner The Christmas Dessert Contest sponsored by the Pleasant Grove Review, American Fork Citizen and Lehi Free Press has a winner. Barbara Birk was awarded the $50 first prize for her Peppermint Stick Yule Log which was printed in the newspaper last week. The judges, Jean Gordon, Helen Beck and Leah Stratton, rated it excellent in all categories. Second place went to Idell Hansen for her Christmas Snowballs. She received $25 for her creation. The third place winner was Rita Romeny who submitted her Christmas Ribbon Loaf. She received $15. Honorable mention went to Kristine Pryor for her Caramel Chip Cake, and to Lynda Bcal for her Santa's Peppermint Surprise. They each received a year's sub-scription to the newspaper. All of the winners were from American Fork except Rita who is from Highland. The sponsors appreciated all of the entires in the contest. Others who had a nibble declared every entry was tasty. Most of them were beautiful as well. Plan to enter the contest for next year which may be a Christmas Candy Contest. - i. Stir until well blended. Place 2 double crackers end to end on a platter. Spred with Va cup lime mixture. Top with 2 double graham crackers; spread with Vi cup cherry mixture. Continue layers alternating flavors and ending with crackers. Mix whipping cream with dream whip and almond extract. Whip until thick. Frost loaf. Garnish with sliced almonds, maraschino cherries or colored chips. Chill 30 minutes or longer. Cut into 1" to 2" slices. Caramel Chip Cake By KRISTINE PRYOIt 1 cup chopped dates 1 tsp. soda 1 cup plus 3 Tbsp. warm water 1 cup margarine 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2 cups flour Vz tsp. salt Vz cup chopped pecans 1 package (12 oz) butterscotch chips Vz cup pecan halves Sprinkle soda over dates; stir, then pour water over them. Let stand 3 minutes. Cream together margarine, eggs, add vanilla and salt. Slowly add date, water mixture. Add flour, chopped pecans and 1 cup of chips. Pour into greased 13 x 9 pan, sprinkle remaining chips on top, place pecan halves over chips. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Serve plain, with whipped cream or warm with a scoop of ice cream. |
