Show City give raise to dispatchers three nighttime dispatchers. The police department felt that the advantage of having the dispatchers on duty at night would include having the station open til later at night to accommodate those who cannot come during regular working hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Having the station open on weekends would also be a help, they said. It was noted that the nighttime dispatchers will not qualify for insurance nor sick leave as they are still considered to be part time workers. There will be full-time dispatching dispatch-ing from the police station which has been a desire of Chief Mike Ferre for some time. The proposal to raise the salaries was made at the suggestion of a committee appointed to study the matter by Mayor David Holdaway. The committee was composed of Donna Brock, Mark Johnson and Dr. David Dickerson. They said it would cost the city, $5,832 from Jan. 1 to June 30 for the salary hike. The funds for this would come from the police department budget and miscellaneous mis-cellaneous funds. The raise will be evaluated again at budget time to determine where the continued funding will come from. The alternatives included turning turn-ing all the dispatching over to Central Dispatch with the County Sheriff's Office or to have a full-time-parttime dispatching with the police station used until midnight and the apartment from midnight until morning. Pleasant Grove police dispatchers dis-patchers who work the evening and weekend shifts won a raise in salary from the Pleasant Grove City Council last week. The dispatchers had requested a raise due to the fact that they had so many responsibilities when they were on duty that they could not sleep. For years the city has used an apartment in the top of the city hall for nighttime and weekend dispatching dis-patching with the intention that the dispatchers could sleep most of the night. The dispatchers pointed out that they not only dispatch the police, ambulance and fire stations but are responsible for civil defense, the alarms for all the pumps, and businesses on the alarm system, etc. They also dispatch for Lehi city power. The dispatchers had figured their salary on an hourly basis and it came to $1.64 an hour. The council approved a pay rate of $3.35 per hour which is the minimum wage. Under the new dispatching system which will take effect on Jan. 1, the dispatchers will work out of the police station, eliminating elimina-ting the necessity of duplicate service lines to the apartment. They will also be given some secretarian responsibilities which can be done at nights and on weekends. The dispatchers will work eight hour shifts instead of the 24 hour shift they formerly handled. The city employs one full time secretary and one part time secretary in the police department. These workers jobs will not be affected by the chnnj There are |
