Show Renaissance fair sets mood for Shakespeare The three-part Shakespeare festival sponsored by the Intermountain Actors Ensemble will premiere this weekend. But you're advised to show up before the curtain cur-tain to see the festival's Greenshow. It is directed by San Diego choreographer Ed Perez, who previously worked on the Kimball Art Center Cabaret this winter. He is also helping to stage the ballroom scene from "Romeo and Juliet." The Greenshow treats the audience to the atmosphere at-mosphere of a Renaissance fair. WL.le figures parade in period dress, sword fights and madrigals take place around them. Perez said this was his first attempt at staging such a show, which is popular at Shkespearean festivals around the country. (The Cedar City event has one too.) To mount the show, Perez studied old books on the period, watched Renaissance fairs in Southern California and attended three or four workshops. Almost all of the Greenshow participants are actors in the plays. The half-hour show is followed by a fifteen-minute intermission before the plays begin. The festival features "Love's Labors Lost" (on Thursday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.), "Romeo and Juliet" (Friday at 8 p.m.), and "Hamlet" (Saturday (Satur-day at 8 p.m.) Tickets are $5 for general admission, $4 for Kimball Art Center members, senior citizens, students, and children under 12. A $10 voucher will cover all three performances, and group rates are available for 10 or more people. Tickets are available at all Datatix outlets. For further information, call 649-5895. 649-5895. The festival is sponsored by Kimball and KWHO Ridio. |
