Enough talent to 'Stop the World' The modern day British version of "Everyman" is the lilting and free-flowing musical, "Stop the World, I Want to Get Off by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. Under the direction of Steven Hunt, remembered in Park City for his joyous production produc-tion of "Godspell" last summer, the play is scheduled sched-uled to open Friday, July 15 at the Egyptian Theatre. Park City Performances' summer season will feature "Stop the World" and "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" playing in repertory at the Egyptian Theatre July 15, 16, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31. The cast for "Stop the" World" features some of the top musical theatre talent from both Salt Lake City and Park City. Heading the cast are Ric Kirschner, who plays Littlechap, and Jaye Maynard May-nard playing Evie, Anya, Use and Ginnie. Kirschner is a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the University of Utah in Child Drama and Directing. He is a professional profes-sional actor and director who has had extensive stage and television work in the Los Angeles area. Kirschner describes his character as "a person with grand dreams of wealth and power who finally discovers the truly valuable things in life." Ms. Maynard is majoring in Musical Theatre at the University of Utah. At the University she has appeared in "The Wizard of Oz" and "She Stoops to Conquer," as well as two PMT Main Stage musicals, "Oliver" and "South Pacific." In her native Madison, Wisconsin, she was featured in numerous numer-ous musicals including "Oklahoma," "Hello Dolly," and "A Funny Thing Happened Hap-pened on the Way to the Forum." Other cast members include in-clude Parkites Maggie Reno, ZachCraigle, Kelly Purdom, Curt Graf and Nicole Merrill. Mer-rill. From Salt Lake City are Alison Whitney Henriksen, Shauna Lyman and Emily Ojala. According to Hunt, the musical is "A stylized and flowing look at the life of a British everyman." Written in the early '60s and presented pre-sented first on Broadway in 1962, the musical was seen as a departure from the traditional tradi-tional Broadway musical of the day. Characters freely assume several different roles throughout the show, and the "circus" atmos-here atmos-here depicts both our modern concept of a circus as well as the classical Greek Circus theme. Memorable Mem-orable musical numbers include in-clude "What Kind of Fool N Am I?" and "Once in a Lifetime." Anthony Newley, co-author, also played the first Littlechap. Each show is $4.50 for members of Park City Performances Per-formances and $5.50 for nonmembers, with a special repertory price of $8 for both shows. Opening night for "Stop the World" is Friday, July 15. with a reception prior to the performance at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Egyptian Theatre.
