Show 1 Holiday weekend brings little change in Softball standings ' l . by Christopher Smart The Fourth of July week saw limited Softball ucuon. In the only close game of the week the Alamo Bums nipped nip-ped the End Run to edge up in the standings before Doc's Club hung them out to dry Tuesday night. Janeaux's stayed winless in one of the three men's Softball games held this week when the Glad-E-Aters took them down to move into a three-way three-way tie for second with Doc's and Prospector Square. No women's games were played. . Glad-E-Aters 24, Janeaux's 8 The Glad-E-Aters finally . took things into their own hands in the fourth inning of the early game Wednesday, June 29 by batting through the line-up for nine runs after af-ter Janeaux's took a momentary momen-tary lead. The win comes as no surprise after the Glad squad knocked off the defending defend-ing champs, Doc's Club, last' week. But for a moment it looked like the Glad-E-Aters might snooze through one. A chance for Janeaux's to win a game? Noooo. The "G" boys came out and did it again in the fifth inning, burying the opposition op-position with another eight runs on homers by Val Provencio and Robo Svoboda. Oh well, another ; one slips through the fingers of Janeaux's. That's okay, it's almost happy hour. Alamo Bums IS, End Run 13 The Alamo Bums staved off a blitzing seventh inning rally by an inspired End Run team in what turned out to be the highlight of an otherwise dismal week of Park City softball. The Bums had tagged the Run hard throughout the early innings and had begun to snooze. After four innings the score was 12-4 Bums. But then the Run started pushing runs across in the late innings, in-nings, setting the stage for what could have been the Independence In-dependence Day massacre. But not all -massacres are successful and the End Run fell short after scoring five big ones in the seventh to go down 15 to 13. Doc's Cluo a. Alamo Bums Doc's seemed refreshed by the holiday weekend as they came out blasting against a' seemingly bleary-eyed Alamo Bums team. The game was essentially over from the beginning, but Doc's held off on the ice until the fourth inning when they pounded the Bum's for eight runs featuring a Rick Rodriguez home run. After that it was merely a matter of trying to keep track of Doc's statistics as V they launched into their familiar act of trying to see ' how many times each could bat. However, Doc's Is going , to have to knock off the Coconuts before they can get a share of first place. j |
