The permits are only available at Wildlife Resources Resour-ces offices and can be obtained by mail or personal application. Mailed applications applica-tions should include the hunter's big game or combination com-bination license number and the correct return address. The latest tips on fishing and hunting are as close as the phone. The Division's recorded hunting and fishing information number (BIRD Line or 532-BIRD) is updated up-dated weekly with the latest information about hunting and fishing areas in Utah and other helpful hints for fishermen, hunters and wildlife wild-life watchers. During the last 12 months, BIRD Line received 70,000 calls from Utahns. It may be reached 24 hours a day. Hunters may purchase one elk permit allowing them to participate in only one elk hunt. Open area bull elk permits allow the hunter to hunt in any open bull elk area during the Sept. 30 to Oct. 13 regular season. Possessors of archery elk permits may also hunt in open bull areas during the Aug. 22 to Sept. 7 archery season. Check the big game proclamation for area boundaries. boun-daries. Last year on the archery elk hunt, 96 elk were harvested for a 9 percent hunter success ratio. On the regular rifle season, 1,980 bull elk were harvested by 18,614 hunters for a 14 percent hunter success. WILDLIFE BOARD TO SET TRAPPING AND WATERFOWL REGULATIONS The Wildlife Board will meet Thursday, Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. in the Salt Lake office of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to set regulations for the trapping and waterfowl water-fowl seasons. The trapping proclamation will include regulations for bobcats, lynx, badger, otter, weasel, fisher, wolverine, ferret, skunks, kit foxes, beaver, mink, marten and muskrats. The waterfowl proclamation proclama-tion will include season dates and regulations for duck, goose, swan, Wilson's snipe and coot. |
