Show Dressage Competition Scheduled for Aug. 14 The Park City Chapter of the Utah Dessage Society will host its first dressage schooling show to introduce the "performing equestrian art" of dressage to the Park City area. Dressage, a French word simply meaning training has its roots in the Golden Age of Greece and has been an Olympic equestrian equest-rian event for many years. This sport of man and horse has been epitomized by the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria, with its white Lippizaner stallions. This schooling horse show will certainly be much more simple than the exhibitions of the Spanish Riding School, but will contain the same basic movements required of all The Lippizaner stallions. The competition will be held all day Saturday, Augustl5, at the Hughes outdoor arena, off Old Ranch Road in Snyderville. The first competitor compe-titor will enter the arena at 8:30 a.m. for a basic - but exacting individual test of competency of both horse and rider. Other horse and rider teams will follow throughout the day. Spectators are more than welcome. Utah Dressage Society members will be present all day to answer any questions. For further information", infor-mation", please feel free to contact either Harriet Stephens Ste-phens at 649-9377 or Ray Ingandela at 649-7174. |
