Show The Watershed by Kathy Dopp Speaking of water conservation, I want to thank whoever turned off my water for a few minutes Friday night, as it made me remember to pay my water bill. Also, I'd like to know why a pressure relief mechanism has not been installed lo slow the enormous gush, of water which splashes into my home, so that "downstream" Parkites might receive a fairer share. Personal experience aside, how did the city come up with a figure of 3,000 gallons per person for water use here when the national average is 500 gallons per person for domestic city dwellers? Does that make you a little suspicious? Is the cilv trying to make it look like we're using, in our homes, all the water that's being wasted through leaks and cracks in underground unfixed pipes? And just who is going to locate and fix these pipes? And when? This year? Next? And did the city include in their calculations the daily tourist average, whatever that is? Do you come to the conclusion that one way to conserve water might be for our city to spend a little money replacing old pipes? Have you considered what would happen to our water supply if the electricity to pump it went off? How many of us have gravity-fed water and would still have water and for how long? Whal sections of town would be without water and for how long? Do you know? I don't. Are we firing the people who know the answers to some of these questions and could help us resolve some of these problems? 11' so, do you conic lo the same conclusions I do? |
