Show headquarters citizens military training camp nine youths from summit county are now attending the citizens unitary military training camp at port fort douglas utah the camp opened july ath and will continue until august ath 1932 the students from summit county are john E wortley paul L garns ancel T johnson r on H harold arold V lowe harold F hur hurlburt aburt william A williams carl E johnson robert W and jack C horenn at fort douglas training Is offered in the infantry the course Is progressive and to the man who successfully completes the four months work one month each year the government offers a commission in the officers reserve forces of the unit united ed states army approximately six hours per day Is devoted to drill of this time about tour four hours are devoted exclusively to military training the other two hours are devoted to physical exercise during the period devoted to military training the students are taught the duties and drill of the individual soldier the importance of team work in the military world by drilling as a member of a e military unit some of the fundamentals of the different arms such as the rifle bayonnet granade machine gun and d pistol laier later they are given an opportunity to actually use these different wea pond pons they are taught sanitation the privileges and duties of a citizen ot of the united states acdan effort is made in this short period to also inculcate something of the proper spirit towards military discipline the afternoons are spent in different forms of athletics such as baseball volleyball leeball ley ball balI ter tennis ints swimming boxing and wrestling all ot of these sports are carried on under athletic directors in addition to this the national physical efficiency test consisting of the running broad jump standing broad jump high jump and the yard dash Is given to every man attending camp this not only affords the individual to get a line on his physical attainments compared to other young men from the intermountain I 1 country but it also gives the federal government data tor for a careful study of the physical condition ot the whole nation through the agency of the various I 1 camps I 1 the government has not failed to consider the tact act that the average american boy who la is continually out in the open getting plenty ot of exercise develops an enormous appetite for that reason the government provides a ration esquival il et 0 o twice bizat rl 1 evv ow d or h cisular Ri sular army and the best methods of determining Nh whether ether or not this part of the camp has proved successful Is by asking any m man a ri who has attended a citizens military milita ta ry training camp very sincerely yours THOMAS AT CRAWFORD lieutenant infantry In I 1 adjutant |
