Show QUARREL IS TAKEN IMO COM Charged with assault with deadly weapon, Samuel Halverson, local ticket agent of the Bamberger line, was arraigned in police court this mornlijg and his preliminary hearing set for Friday morning. Tbe complainant com-plainant is John Farr. the well-known coal denier, and the assault Is alleged to have taken place on October 12 . According to the fiory which lias been told of the asdault and which the prosecution will attempt to prove, Halverson met Farr at the corner of Washington avenue and Twenty-fifth street. It had been arranged that the coal dealers of the city should hold a meeting and Halverson. as representative represen-tative of the Bamberger Coal com pany, had failed to attend. Fair, In meeting the Bamberger agent, asked him why he had not been present f t the mpet'ng. A meeting had been called by the local coal dealers to fix certain minimum mini-mum prices for certain grades of coal. Every coal dealer in the city had received re-ceived an invitation to attend. Fnrr asked Halverson why he had not attended at-tended and charged that Bamberger had been cutting prices on coal. In the discussion which followed, Halverson became excited, it Is alleged alleg-ed and the lie was passed. They struck at each other. Farr turned to walk away. As he did so. it is claimed claim-ed that Halverson struck him with an umbrella. The sharp point of the umbrella came in conf.net with Farr's temple, inflicting a gah. On the advice of friends, Farr decided decid-ed to have Hahertion arrested anil the complaint was iss icd in police court ye-sgrday iiftemoon. Mr. Halverson was permitted lo leave the court room on his own recognizance recog-nizance to appear on Friday for his preliminary hearing |
