Show TVELVE MEN SCALDED IN AN EXPLOSION New York, Nov. 8. Twelve men are ui.der the care of hospital physicians In Brooklyn today as the result of a boiler explosion shortly before mlj night. The men were working on a 'dead'" boiler in an electric lighting plant near the water front, when another an-other boiler, ten feet away, exploded,' explod-ed,' covering thc-fii with scalding water and steam. All the men wore knocked down and three of them were rendered unconscious uncon-scious by their injuries. The other fi'ne, frightfully burned, rushed Mindly out of the boiler pit, whllo a squad of volunteers from among Ihe stokers In nn adjoining room went to the rescue of the three who had teen left behind. The rescuers, with faces covered to protect them from the heat, dashed into the boiler room, gToped quickly about In the darkness until they laid h.mds on tho three bodies. Then I v. Ith every bit of strength and speed at their command, tney dragged tho unconscious men to the open air. The rospltal physicians declared that all twelve of the Injured will recover. Tho force of the exproaion shook the neighborhood for two blocks arcund. and residents half a mile away heard the report. Person living nearby, near-by, mostly tenants of little frame bouses, left their homes In alarm, but were quieted by the police. The cause of the explosion was not lc arned. |
