Show CHECKERS TEAM IS FORMED Memucrs of the erstwhile baseball club of the Union Pacific car shops are now devoting their spare moments to the less strenuous same of checkers check-ers and are expected Boon to Issue a challenge to their old rivals of the diamond to meet them in a contest on the squared board. M. C. Blakeley, formerly captain nnd third baseman of the baseball team, now leads the coterie of checker check-er ehallenaers and is said to know the game "by book."' A. S. Charlesworth, formerly a center fielder, now spends his noon hours stooped over the blocked board and claims that with tho "white men'' ho can defeat any machinist In tho itate of Utah. A. O Terrin and Emil Knecke have Just completed a new checker board und when they are not playing the game they are studying out checker problems. Checkers Is becoming an epidemic in the car shops and It Is expected that before long every man in the shops, who can use a paint brush and mix two different, colors cf paint, will have bis own checker board which he can carry to and from bis work under his arm. |
