Show CLUB HOUSE FOR THE ELKS A palatial Elks' clubhouse. In Ogden, Og-den, so long the dream of the more enthusiastic members of the local lodge, now seems certain of realization, realiza-tion, as a committee of four has been appointed with full power to act on Its own Initiative In the purchase of a suitablo site. This committee has In view several suitable lots for such a building and it Is likely that a deal VU1 be consummated within a few days. According to the statement state-ment of Exalted Ruler C. A. Boyd. It will be only a matter of thirty days after the purchase of the site until the ground Is broken for the erection of the building. The local lodge of Elks was never in better shape for the propect of building than at present. Within the past three months the membership baa been increased by seventy-live and the treasury thereby enhanced to a considerable degree. The lodge may now boast of havlDg over $11,000 on hand. This Is a sufficient sum with which to start the building ball a rolling, and as It rolls It Is certain to gather not only Impetus but much more of tho stuff of which Its un-cleus un-cleus Is made. In fact, the financial end of the proposition has ceased to bother the lodge, as there are several sev-eral ways open for the raising of the necessary funds. That Ogden has not now an Elks' club house Is due to a lack of concerted con-certed effort on the part of the local membership. SaDgulne ones have always al-ways been In favor of the project and time and again has the matter been broached In the lodge room. Until Un-til ihe last meeting, however, tho lodge has taken no decided action. It has proposed, but never acted. At the last meeting this languid order of things was reversed. Exalter Ruler Boyd and Trustees J. A Howell T. A. Vhalcn and T. V. Joues were selected select-ed as a commltlee to go ahead, purchase pur-chase a lot and take any other action ac-tion necessary to assure the erection of the proposed club house. While the exact cost of tho building has not been stipulated. It will run from $15,000 to $60,000. It will be equipped with all the luxurious conveniences con-veniences common to the club houses of the B. P. O. K. in the larger cities. While the present quarters of tho lodge are very convenient and comfortable com-fortable they will be no model for the now home, which. In every way, will cutdo them. Exalted Ruler Boyd stated yesterday yester-day evening thut the lod.y;e anticipated antici-pated no trouble whatever ln raising tho tJiecessary Anoney. "There are many means of securing funds." he paid, "and tho financial end of tho deal will not cause us any inconvenience. inconveni-ence. At preKent it costs $150 for a 1 1 to membership In the Oden lodge. Thero has been some talk of reducing reduc-ing this, for a stated period of tlmo, to $120 or even $100, with tho proviso that all members taking advantage of tho reduced rate shall secure a new member. We could oven give the life member two years In which to P8y the amount. This is a scheme that would bring ln a great deal of money, but It Is only one of many propositions that are, perhaps. ju?t fis jroqd." Mr. Boyd declined fo state whether the committee has already selected a feltc for the building, saying that tthlla there were 6everal suitablo plncea tn sight the committee had not et secured an option on any of them and that It would, therefore, not bo good business policy to make public which or the locations the committee , nioet favored. |
