Show REASON OF REDUCED GOLDFI ELD EARNINGS Recently in these columns appeured ihe production and earning figures of tho OoMfleld Consolidated company for tho month of July, there being a reduction in protits and In the valuo of the ore treated, but an increased tonnage was handled. General Manager Man-ager Finlay 9 complete report ha3 now been received, of which the following is an extract: 'Operations were hampered In July by one thing only a shortage of water wa-ter for milling. The miDe and mill were both ready by July 1 to continue production at "the full capacity at which they wore running before the lire of April 8, but during July the water received was only two-thirds the amount received In March. By husbanding the water In the mill with great care, using the spent cyanide solutions in the batteries Instead y' fresh water, It was found poss.ble to get through about S5 per cent of a full tannage, but this practice Is not mot-allurglcally mot-allurglcally good. Both costs- and losses were increased over what they should have been. We nope to overcome over-come this difficulty, at least partly, during the month of August. Somo rains have broken a dry spell of seven months, and this new water is already beglnnlug to help out tho supply. I "New discoveries of ore during tho I month were unusually light. The total to-tal advance made In development work wa. 24.520 feet, equal to one for for eight and one-half tons of ore milled. There were found some show-I show-I ings of consequence, particularly iu I tho Combination, where extensions ' were found in the Hampton stope, both upward and downward, but thes discoveries were not on main levels. The greater iart of the development work now going on is designed to open up new territory as fast as pos-fclblo pos-fclblo without stopping io look for oro until certain objectlvo points havo been reached."
