Show NOW OTHERS SHOULD ACT. The president of the Weber Club and the Mayor have won for Ogden an important concession from the Salt Lake and Og-den railroad, rail-road, commonly known as the Bamberger road. When the first passenger pas-senger rates over the new electric line were put in effect, it was found that the charges made for tickets at intermediate points between be-tween Ogden and Salt Lake gave Salt Lake an advantage in competing com-peting for the trade of Davis county almost as far north as the Weber county line. When the discrimination was called to the attention at-tention of the Mayor, he took counsel with A. R. Heywood and those gentlemen proceeded to labor with the Bamberger people, with the result that the first of this week a new schedule of passenger rates was posted, to go into effect on September 1. After the first of the month there will be no discrimination, but, to the contrary, Ogden merchants will have an advantage over their Salt Lake rivals in all that rich territory north of Farmington. By the way, our business men should get busy and annex the trade of all northern Davis county tributary to the Bamberger road. They now have the first real opportunity to invade what heretofore has been considered Salt Lake territory by reason of the unfair treatment accorded local merchants by all the railroads between Ogden and Salt Lake. The president of the Weber Club and the Mayor having successfully suc-cessfully performed their mission, and declined further glory with .thanks, there is still much to be done in this same direction by others. These tasks, though thankless, must be undertaken by some one and now it is in order for the business men and their supporters to select a committee to prod the steam roads which, like the Bamberger, Bam-berger, have discriminated against Ogden, but, unlike the electric road, seemingly are resolved not to see the error of their way or do anything to correct a gross injustice being dally perpetrated against this community. |
