Show KicKs a Newspaper Man in a Struggle on a Train Olney, III., Aug. 11. loseph Wen dllng, charged with the murder of Alma Al-ma Kellner in LouIsille, became a refractory re-fractory prisoner here today and objected ob-jected to Chief of Detectives Carney of LouIsvIUp taking him from the Baltimore Bal-timore & Ohio train. In a struggle, WeudUng kicked a reporter for a Louisville paper, who is following Ihe alleged slayer. Tho prisoner was handcuffed to Carney Car-ney at the time. He refused to leave the train when his attorney, J. R. Clements, spoke to him. Wendling was put Into an automobile, which went southeast along the Illinois Central Cen-tral tracks. Carney told the station agent he probably would take an Illinois Illi-nois Central train into Kentucky. He wanted the time of his arrival in Louisville kepi secret. Clements, who caught the train in St, Louis after Carney had put hl6 prisoner aboard early today, rode 'jn the same car with Wendling As soon 1 as Carney told Wendling to leave the .car, Clements advised his client in an undertone and a struggle ensued. Carney, Car-ney, Colonel John H. Whalen and two newspaper men pushed Wendling through the door of the car and to the station platform The automobile was engaged by Carney by telegraph. Clements did net leave the train here. |
