Show IF GAYNOR RECOVERS. Mayor Gaynor of New York continues to improve. .He has passed the danger period of blood-poisoning and the wound inflicted inflict-ed by Gallagher, the crank, presents no unfavorable symptoms. With recovery, Mayor Gaynor will become a hero, and who knows ' but that he will receive higher honors than he has been given. Gaynor has been a reform mayor of a city much in need of good government. He has retrenched and purified until he has become recognized as a strong, capable man. With party lines but loosely drawn, there is a possibility of such a man reaching a higher political politi-cal station than he now holds, perhaps governor of New York. Gallagher may have shot Mayor Gaynor into a position so preeminent pre-eminent as to win for the reformer the Democratic nomination for president in 1912. Misfortunes are sometimes good fortune in disguise. |
