Show ' MEASURING A MOUNTAIN. How high is Monte Christo? A party of Ogdenites leave thi3 evening by automobile to answer that question. The mountain is 40 miles northwest of Ogden, overlooking Bear Lake and Cache Valley. It is said to be the highest mountain in northern Utah, but has not been scaled. Rev. J. E. Carver, John Spargo, J. R. Cooper and Fred Nye are the mountaineers and Rev. Carver is equipped with instruments to actually determine the topmost altitude. Monte Christo is the only mountain in this part of the state the top of which is above the timber line. It is estimated to be 11,000 to 13,000 feet above sea level, which is a thousand or more feet higher than Observatory Peak back of Ogden. |
