Show FREIGHT HANDLERS DEMAND INCREASE New York, Aug. 11 The freight' handlers employed by the various railroads, rail-roads, having terminals in New York, are considering tho question of presenting pre-senting demands for an increase In wages from IS to 2" cents an hour, according to an announcement by the union officers today. Tn case of a strike they will be supported by the members of the International longshoremen's long-shoremen's associations The freight handlers' union has about 7,000 members in the city and the Longshoremen and Scow Timbers' Tim-bers' unions marshal about an eqyal number. "For tho last two years the freight handlers have been working ten hours a day at 18 cents an hour," says tho union statement, "and this is no longer long-er satisfactory. We hepe to obtain a peaceful settlement for a strike would mean a nerlous t'o-up and would cripple crip-ple badlythe business of tho city." |
