Show FIRES SPREADING IN CLEARWATER Missoula, Aug. 11 After spending most of yesterday and all of last night In the saddle. Deputy Supervisor Spauiding of tho Clearwater national forest arrived at the district headquarters head-quarters here this morning from Packer's Meadow and brought the first detailed report of the II res which are raging In the interior of that wild mountainous country, fires that arc now encaging the most attention of the forest service. Mr. Spouldlng's reports show the district to be in very bad shape and that one fire alone has burned over an area cf from three to five townships, town-ships, the largest single area burned burn-ed In field district No. 1, this sea son. Renewed efforts are being made today to-day to secure men and arrange for the transportation of supplies by pack train Into the Clearwater district. Forester For-ester Greely has gone to the head of the Bitter Root valley for this purpose pur-pose and Is outfitting the crew today to make- the Journey up Ioat Horse creek and thus over the divide. |
