Show EDDIE DUGAN STAR OF PIMLICO MEET I Other Jockeys Except M'lntyre Show Indifferent Form This Year. (By Ed Curie v ) Baltimore. Md May 10. With racing rac-ing now in full swing at Pimlico it Is ! evident that the jockey station is in a j bad way. There arc any number of embryo pigskin stars rearing silks here, but Cne fact remains that tho only real live rider here is Eddie Du-gan. Du-gan. This clever, reckless lad, who was given his conge In England a few-weeks few-weeks ago. Is kingpin here, and no matter what kind of a horse he rides there is always plenty of support. This acts In away as a double-edged sword to the players. While they are assured of getting a good ride for their money, mon-ey, they are paying heavily for tho privilege, as the layers quote about one-half the real price against any of Dugan's mounts. f Dugan has all tho boys here "buffa- loed." With any kind of a fair break lie always gets away first, and obtains the best position in the raco. With a fast starter the Belmont jockey Is out tlncanning before other boys are half prepared. Last week he rode several winners, particularly Racine II. on Thursday j and Juggler on Friday, when any other I boy would have lost. The only trou- i ble In playing Dugan is that he is 11a- 1 ble to disqualification. If there is any : chance of getting ofi well or dashing through a knothole Dugan takes the advantage, no matter what tho cost. I The stewards have warned him sev- I era! times, but he is so eager to wm ' that the little fellow does everything I possible to get home first. j James Mclntyre, the boy who pilots J the runners of Billy Garth, is showing form and has a following, but nothing 1 In comparison with Dugan's army. The little apprentice. "Happy" Devcr-Ich, Devcr-Ich, Is rapidly forging to the front, and if he cun keep up the good work will have no difficulty in getting J mounts about New York. There aro very few other boys here that displav anything outside of ordinary ability. " Little Upton, who gave promise last year of becoming a good rider, seems to have lost 5ils bearings and Is now passed up by the crowd. The boy is so light that when it conies down to a driving finish, particularly iu a long l race, he Is of no assistance to his I mount. I |
