Show DECLARED INSANE. Man Who Wrote Threatening Letters Goes to Asylum. Salt Lake, May 9. Suffering from the hallucination that Thomas Kearns, former Unltea States senator, had hired men to kill him, L. A. Woodruff, a miner of Hlte, Garfield county, was y esterday declared Insane and sent to the state institution at Provo by a commission com-mission presided over by Judge T. D. Lewis. Woodruff was arrested and brought to Salt Lake by United States Deputy Marshal Julian Riley to face a charge of writing threatening letters through the mail. Ho had several times Issued challenges to the former senator to fight a duel with any weapons that Mr. Kearns might select. On receiving no replies, he became more abusive and threatening. Ho also wrote Governor William Spry several times, advising the governor on how the business of tho stato should be conducted. Another belief was that ho vas being followed by "Black Hand" desporadoes, who were trying to kill him. Woodruff is 55 years old. |
