Seven weeka had boen expended in examination examin-ation and disqualification of Jurors to try Patrick Calhoun upon an indictment indict-ment charging bribery, whon tho caso was resum-ed today in Judge Lawlor s division of the superior -court. :TeTi citizens, cit-izens, temporarily occupying seats, in the jury box. and forty talesmen or a special panel not yet examined, represented rep-resented the net result, and with the exercise of - peremptory challenges still in the indefinite future, there la possible no cccurate forecast of the time lhat will be required to secure twelve jurors actually qualified and acceptable to prosecution and defense. Up to today, 1,275 citizens had been summoned to attend tho sessions of the trial, and of these 425 have been subjected to actual interrogation by the attorneys. Judge Lawlor, early in the session, called the attention of the attorneys to the fact that time was being wasted on the Interrogation of talesmen who were obviously unable to qualify, and directed that hereafter the questions be directed immediately toward disclosing dis-closing an opinion, if one existed. |
