At the party yesterday, Mr. Smith was presented with a valuables gold chain with K, of P. charm, by those who arranged for tho surprise. Mr. Smith has been in the employment 1 of the railroad for about 25 years, during which time he has gained tho friendship of all the men with whom he has associated, and the chain was presented to him as a token of the esteem in whloh he is held by hi3 friends. The party was a complete 9urprl3e to Mr, Smith, and it was a most happy one, too. Ho graciously and with considerable con-siderable emotion accepted the present pres-ent and urged his fellow, workmen to continue to work in .harmony both with themselves and their employers.
