Show GARDENING MADE INTERESTING In a recent Issue some experiments were outlined that would show tho growth of peas and beans, with the suggestion Jthat a note-book record of later developments would be very Interesting. Inter-esting. The suggestion Is so good that it Is worth repealtng and enlarging, for such study is wonderfully fascinating. fascinat-ing. . If the beans you are watching happen to be of tho "polo" variety, watch the way they climb their pol? and then watch tho other vines and note the difference in the way they twine some going always toward the sun and others the opposite direction. All vines ha a wonderful fascination fascina-tion when one begins to study their habits, for their ways of working seem as intelligent and their mo-ments as voluntary as those of a person but they must be watched to learn these things. Another interesting study is the relationship re-lationship of plants. Not every boy knows that the onions he is growing In the vegetable garden are full cousins to the hyacinths and lilies In tho flower' garden. There are more than a thousand thou-sand members in this circle of relatives and they will bo found in very unexpected unex-pected places. A third line of study that holds many surprises is the various kinds uf seed formation the way they are produced and scattered. There may be onic- surprises, sur-prises, ton. In trying to learn hov many of our foods and drinks are merely seeds prepared in various ways. Not only foo.l, but rlothes as well, show up some surprises when they are really thought about. When ;i hoy js reminded that his straw hat and his cotton shirt grew in the field he sees them with new eyes and probably begins be-gins to tr.-u-e other belongings back to their origin. Farm World. |
