Show by some human whelp seated on a cushioned spring seat, instead of. walking, wielding a w"hlp bringing welts on the sides of his faithful obedient friend, the horses. I have seen similar fights ou Twenty-tlfth street in the winter months, many times. It would be better to have lighter loads and more thoughtful, careful teamsters and more beautiful streets in our city. Gentlemen of the Civic League, we ask that you do not abandon your Ideal Idea to park Twenty-fourth and give the city the benefit of other holp-ful holp-ful suggestions. You, perhaps, will always find those who oppose any real nice, worthy, desirable thing. I suppose you can find people In Utah who would even oppose the idea of Ogden and Weber county building a half million jlollar capitol and presenting pre-senting it to the state free of cost a building that would be. ample to handle the business of the state for two generations, a building of which we could be proud, a credit to this city and the entire state at largo. Why not go after It? Then there is another matter tl2l would be a good idea to GO AFTEK. We don't think much about it this month when the days are long and everything is lovely and "in tune with the infinite," and the nights are short and we don't burn much money In the way of electric light. What has become be-come of our lighting and heating proposition that gave such promise and raised such high hopes a short time ago in block twenty-five? Will somebody "who knows" tell us? i think the Harrlman people can well afford to be very good 10 Ogdcn, considering con-sidering the contribution made in the way of excessive freight rates and electric light rates. Very respectfully, J. T. IIURST. SUGGESTIONS OFFERED BV MERCHANT J. T. HURST IN FAVOR OF BOOSTING BOOST-ING FOR OGDEN. I Twenty-fourth Street Should Be Parked and a Campaign Should Be Made for the Capitol. Onward. ' It is settled, that capitol idea. Now that it's all over and almost forgotten forgot-ten and the papers throught Utah have all had their say and explained how it heppened or didn't happen, let's take up a few other things and talk about them. Let's work up a "kinder" git together sentiment and everybody talk for a greater Ogden a booster club to help the Weber club and the civic leapue. Suppose, the slogan is adopted "Onward, Ogden, Og-den, Onward!" I notice some two weeks ago or more the Chamber of Commerce had a meeting. In the report given or this event it was stated that an expression ex-pression of opposition was manifested manifest-ed by some members present to the parking of Twenty-fourth street. Not being a member of this body of business busi-ness men and net being present, can only form an opinion by the report given. The Civic League of Ogden has offered of-fered some very good suggestions at vari ou's times, some of which have ben adopted and carried out under our eyes. This league has secured from the council, I understand, permission per-mission to park Twenty-fourth for a certain distance, at its own expense, with money provided from their own pockets. Now come some (progressive?) (progres-sive?) cmembers of tne commercial body politic and say it would be obji.tiona, ble for many .reasons l have grass growing in the streets or Ogden. Maybe they are right. Who fihall ay? It was argued that Twenty-fourth street is one of the streets where heavy traffic Is carried on and io the winter time teams have to zigzag zig-zag acrofes the street to get up the hill. I think herein Is a "suggestion for the huniane society to get busy. Have a deputy sheriff duly appointed, with headquarters at tha county court hou?e, which overlooks this hill, and next winter wnen these heavilv leaded teams are strUKglinc; up Twenty-fourth zlg-zaz, until they get down on their knees; goaded on |
