Show ELBERTAS WON OVER THE GODDARD TEAM i Salt Lake City. June 26. The gamo between the Goddard Smokers of Og- j den and the ElbcrUs was a peculiar iono in many ways. At the outset It looked like a walk off for the home team, as the boys piled up three runs in the first and two more in the second, sec-ond, while the visitors had only one run, and they appeared to be rather I nonplussed over Lowe's curves, spit ! balls, etc. Some very bad errors helped to rattle them quite badly, also, and the fans began to look for a ruth-loss ruth-loss slaughter of the Innocents. The Smokers were determined to die hard, however, so they came up in ihe third with faces set like flint and every nerve strained to do something. And they did it. In double quick time four men romped home, tleing tho Elbertas. and the home team, was shut out in their half of that inning. In' the fourth each side scored one. Nothing was doing then until the seventh, when the "Peaches" made two runs, neither side scoring In the eigth. and the visitors vis-itors made one in the last, which made the. score" 7-8 dn our favor. The features was a three-bagger by Ramshaw. first man up, in the first Inning. "Rammy" also made a three-bagger iu the second, but. was put out as ho slid onto the sack. Another An-other stunt which 2)e did was to gather in a high fly with his left hand In the eighth, grabbing Young with the other hand, who was also after the fly, to keep from falling. The' crowd howled Itself hoarse.; Wealey ; Anderson made a good playl getting to third on an error by the second baseman. , little criticism was made on tho decisions of 'Bud" Buchannon, who umpired. : A number of fans eaJd it was the rankest game they had ever seen, and the visiting team complained in strong language at fbc treatment accorded ac-corded them by the umpire. The job is a thankless" one at best and it Is impossible to please everybody, but it would be the gallant part to always give the visitors the benefit of every doubt, where close plays are made. |
