Show GREAT DAY PLANNED FOR THE OLD FOLKS . Salt Lako, June .23. The Old Folks' , central committee met Thursday evening even-ing nt I he home of Bishop Heber C I IVerson and completed' arrangements J for Old Folks' day, which Is to be cele-1 bratod in this city Tuesday. June 29.' The affair promises to-be one of the most elaborate of its kind which has j ever been undertaken by the commit-1 toe and the oged residents of this city . and elsewhere will ho given an enjoy-1 able time. The affair wlllbe participated in by 1 the old folks residing in the territory between Payson and Lohl on the, south afld Brigham City and Salt Lake on the north. The-old folks of Salt Lnke county outside ofthe city limits will not participate In the affair, owing to the committee finding it absolutely impossible to accommodato them com fortably and in view of the fact tha, other entertainments arc coming for tor the old folks of Salt Lake county, it was decided that they would not feel hurt at not being invited to the present -one. Half of the residents of the city who own automobiles and who have volunteered the u.-e of their machine for tho occasion, will take their autos to tho O. -S. L. depot lo meet the train from the north, which-will leave Brigham City at 7:20 o'clock in the morning, and the oiher half will meet the train from the south at tho D. & It. G. depot, which will leave Payson at 7 a. m. The bishops and ihe bishops' counselors coun-selors of Liberty and Pioneer stakes will go to the D. & R. O. depot to take care of I ho old folks and see that I hey get seated in the automobiles, while those of the Ensign and Salt Lake stakes will go to tho Short Line depot. de-pot. Aside from the automobiles, the old folks will be met at the depots by the Fifteenth Infantry band from Fort Douglas and tho Ladies' G. A, R. band, which will go to the O. S. L. and D. & R. G. depots, respectively. Upon being brought to the business section, the old folks will be met at Brigham Young's monument at the top of Main street, by Held's band All these, bands have donated their services for tho occasion There will be a parade on Main street, after which the old people will be taken to Temple square, where a musical entertainment en-tertainment will be held in the tabernacle taber-nacle and a big dinner served. In addition ad-dition to the musical program, which already has been published, Prof. J. J. McClellan's symphony orchestra will render a selection. Pastors and ministers of the various, vari-ous, denominational churches of. the city and the bishops of the Mormon church are requected to ascertain how many people over 70 years of age there arc in their congregations and apply to Secretary William Bartleti at the presiding bishop's office, In the L. D. S. university building, Tor tickets. Through the courtesy of Joseph S. Wells, general manager of the Utah Light and Railway company, the old folks, wearing their badges, will be transported about the city free. Flags will be distributed to the Usitors at the depots as they alight from the trains, and the old folks of this city will be furnished with flags at the entrance to Temple square. The old people of this city will not be admitted admit-ted to the tabernacle until 12 o'clock This is to enable the committee to get the visitors seated before the old people peo-ple from this city are admitted. This will be done to avoid all crowding The committee announced Thursday evening that positively only people over the age of 70 jears will bo admitted. ad-mitted. It is expected that from 3,500 to 4.000 people will, participate in the affaiv. and accommodations will be arranged ar-ranged for this number. It is impossible, impos-sible, howoer, to provide accommodations accommo-dations for a very much gi eater crowd which would naturally result in case the committee is not determined that the affair is to be participated in only by those more than 70 years of age. All old folks are requested by the central committee to come provided with a knife, fork, spoon and cup. |
