This sum is ?15,000. None of it has so far been raised. Tho Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, when tho opportunity was first offered, secured options on the site selected se-lected by the governor and the armory board. For these options, the organia-tion organia-tion paid $500, One of these options was about to expire and I called the directors of the chamber in special meeting to meet the situation. They decided to lake up the option, but as the organization is without funds, the money necessarpwas raised by a notet for $3000 indoi;ed by several of the directors. Tdtlo to the property is to be held by O. J. Stilwell, as trustee with the agreement that if the land is j not taken for the armory purpose and the money paid, it becomes the property prop-erty of the men wfco indorsed tho note It is exactly the same method as was followed in the Sperry Mills deal which has just been successfully consummated. con-summated. "Our agreement with tho armory board is in writing. It is that a building build-ing costing not less than $8,000 will be erected if the si'e is donated. R. E. Bristol, who was chairman of the committee com-mittee that secured this contract has I been absent, from the state much of the time since and could not continue to serve. At the meeting of the directors di-rectors of tho chamber, Parloy T. Wright was designated as chairman of the committee to continue the work. I certainly hopo the money can bo raised and the building constructed at once." |
