Jackson, special agent in charge of tho department of justice hore. That hoarding by retailers re-tailers is ono of the causes of present pres-ent high prices is tho complaint that hay been made, wheji, as a matter or fact, thcro Is no foundation to such complaints, says Mr. Jackson. Records on file with the department depart-ment of justice here show that 50 per cent of sugar which was shipped from Utah was shippod by wholesalers and inlllini-u. i-wl (, l I., y these statistics, Mr. Jackson said, that the charges that the retailers are engaged en-gaged In interstate commorce of the commodity arc also groundless. It was reported to tho department that the Aucrbach company had the basement of the Pantages theatre full of sugar. Results of a thorough investigation in-vestigation showed that the company has only 40 sacks on hand, which they are closing out at 33 cont3 for two pounds. 55. c. M. "There Is plenty of sugar on hand," said Mr. Jackson, "if the people would buy in normal quantities and not cause a panic by trying to stock up their cellars and attics.
