Show l oo j Urge Decision on Collection of Checks Without Paying Remitting Bank a Fee MINNEAPOLIS, April 6. Opposition Opposi-tion to the federal reserve bank's system sys-tem of par collections of checks was expressed in resolutions adopted hero at a conference of bankers from tho Ninth federal reserve district, which comprises Minnesota, Montana, North nnd South Dakota and parts o AVis-consin AVis-consin and Michigan. The resolutions urged the American Bankers' association to provide funds for seeking a judicial Interpretation of that part of the federal act permitting per-mitting the reserve banks to collect checks without paying the remitting banks a fee for exchange. Attempts by tho Montana delegation to have the resolutions directed at the federal reserve bank were defeated. Harry Yager, secretary of the Montana Mon-tana Bankers' association and field representative, of the Minneapolis bank reserve, reported that whatever action taken ought not to bo directed at the Ninth district bank becauso the bank's officers in enforcing tho par collections were only carrying out duties outlined for them by federal laws. M. J. Dowling, president of the Minnesota Min-nesota Bankers' association, declared that unless tho council of the American Ameri-can Bankers' association at Its meeting meet-ing this month provides additional funds for a court interpretation of the par collections, he would resign as chairman of tho association's commlt-tco commlt-tco council. |
