Plans of the National Na-tional Beet Growers' association to demand de-mand a higher price for sugar beets from the next crop, as formulated at today's session of thoir first annual meeting, wcro frowned upon by John 11. Atwood, special assistant to Attorney Attor-ney General Palmer, who told u committee com-mittee from the association which waited upon him, that the government looks with disfavor upon any further forced Increase in the price of sugar. He denied the report that he would take part in the anti-high price campaign being conducted here by United States district dis-trict Attorney Harry B. Tedrow. He will address the convention tonight. Utah Growers Making Contracts. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 27. Tho Utah state farm bureau assembled assem-bled in annual convention hero and representing 90 per cent of tho beet sugar growers of the slate, last night sent a telegram to tho national beet growers' convention in Denver notif'-ing notif'-ing them that the Utah growers will not bind themselves to any contract action taknn in Denver. The messago added that the Utah growers are now negotiating iheir 1920 contracts with tho Utah refiners. |
