Meredith, of Iowa, editor of "Suc-Iccssful "Suc-Iccssful Farming" will be named secretary secre-tary of agriculture to succeed Mr. Houston who is to take the place of the Secretary of the Treasury Carter Glass. I Mr. Meredith, who is at Miami, Fla., i telegraphed to the White House today accepting the office. He is fifty-four years old and his home Is in lowu.j Before starting "Successful Farming," he was the publisher of the "Farmers' Tribune." He was a candidate for the United States senate in 191-1 and Tor governor of Iowa in 191G. President Wilson was expected to send the nominations of both Mr. Houston and Mr. Meredith to the senate sen-ate today. As soon as Secretary Hous-' ton qualifies Mr. Glass will take his seat In the senate to succeed the late Senator Martin of Virginia. oo |
