Show THANKSGIVING SEASON. Without a proclamation, there are few who would fail to note the fact that next Thursday is our national time of thanksgiving. But with proclamation of president and governor, there are many who will fail to offer up thanks, accepting the blessings they enjoy as rights for which they owe no one. But there is philosophy in being grateful and in reflecting on the I 1. !i ,: 1 advantages which are accorded the average person of Utah. With sin- j cere thankfulness, there comes a spirit of brotherly love, which makes for good deeds and a nobler manhood. In his proclamation to the people of Utah, Acting Governor Harden Bennion says: "The cycle of seasons once more has brought to us that period of the year in which it is the custom of the American people to turn thought toward expression of thankfulness for the many blessings bestowed be-stowed by our Creator. "Each year we are given some new demonstration of His loving kindness for which we owe grateful acknowledgment and at this tim not the least of these is the safe return to our fireside: of our sons and daughters from the field of struggle between right and might. "Now, therefore, I, Harden Bennion, acting governor of the stale of Utah, in accordance with custom, hallowed by the worship of our ! ancestors, and in willing observance of the statutes of our great state, do hereby designate and set apart Thursday. November 27, 1919. as Thanksgiving day, and urge the people of Utah to desist from un-1 un-1 necessary labor and. in church and home, give humbh. expression to their thankfulness, and pray that wise counsels may prevail to defend us from threatening perils and that restful peace and prosperity may remain with us dunng the coming year." |
