Show BRITISH CHEERED BY PRESENCE OF THE YANKS . It is not possible to read with any care the magazines and dally papers published in Great Britain without noticing no-ticing tho very great cheer that has come to the hearts of the British by the appearance In their midst of our own American troops. All over, England, Eng-land, north, south, east and west arc studded rest camps of the United States army and the appearance of the men, their general behavior, their upstanding and well cared for morale is Inspiring the heartiest appreciation. Chaplain Thomas E. Bovan, a college col-lege friend of Rev. Godfrey Matthews, writes from a camp in the county of Dorset, England, and says: "It has been a great joy to our people peo-ple to find our American brothers ranged so definitely on pur side. It has completely changed the complexion complex-ion of affairs on our side, and put a new life and zest into our fighting troop. The conviction especially since the Americans came in is now ineradicable in-eradicable that we are bound to win, and although the material aid given Is appreciated, yet this Is nothing compared com-pared with the moral support derived from the American advent. "Your wonderful president, with his lofty views and profound convictions, is regarded by all thinking men on this side as a great prophet sent from God, whose definite and complete stand on the side .of righteousness has given a moral "flllp" to our efforts which can never be adequately measured." Chaplain Bevan has seen service In Gallipoli, and France; has been thrice wounded; was on the Transylvania when she was torpedoed in tfye Mediterranean, Medi-terranean, anch, after being in the water for three hours, barely was saved; has contracted malaria so badly that just a few months ago ho was invalided invalid-ed home to England and, after recuperating recu-perating in hospitals and sanitariums, has become attached to tho royal air force stationed at Blandford camp, Dorset, from which place he will shortly leave to join his regiment of Welsh fusileers In France. |
