COULD NOT SEE THE JOKE. J Somewhile ago a cotton man from Texas was Introduced to a leading New York stock oxchango house as a possible client. Ho asked if ho could send wires requesting cotton information informa-tion and get telegraphic replies. Tho Arm, seeing possibilities of business, answered in tho affirmative. Weeks dragged Into months and tho wires from the Texas correspondent came regularly every day and sometimes some-times more frequently. They wero answered an-swered conscientiously but . produced no business. Recently the wires from the Texas man became more curt and the matter reached a head when a couple of days ago the Now York firm received a wire us follows: "What's the dope this a. m." The exasperated New York cotton man wired back: "Heroin." Next morning tho New York firm got the following: "Have searched all the code books In vain for that word, pleaso don't answer In code."
